The talented Jo at Urban Cynic sent us this dramatic photo of the Palace Pier in "London by the Sea," the famous seaside resort town of Brighton. This is the pier Richard Attenborough used as a liefmotif in his wonderful adapation of Joan Littlewood's "Oh, What a Lovely War," starring my old friend Victor Spinetti. This gathering, almost ominous sky would have fit in perfectly!

That photo is just stunning!
How beautiful!
I love the light in that photo.
Wow! A lovely photo from the lovely Jo.I found you through her blog, which is a favourite of mine, and I think yours is fab! I am wondering what photos I have to send you....Anyway, I shall return! S
The light really is excellent. As a child, I used to live pretty near Brighton and used to go in at the weekend sometimes. Even then the pier was pretty run down, but I loved the Brighton Rock - long, thick batons of peppermint you could suck on for hours, like oversized candy canes.
Not sure what happened with my logging in on my post a minute ago. Didn't mean to be Anonymous
Britannia In Brief
What a great picture, I miss the UK but am getting very excited for my visit next month.
So pleased you all love Jo's photo--and well-deserved, it captures a more innocent time beautifully. Sarah, yes, do send us one!
B&B--how I remember that rock! Made dentists quite rich, remember the name of the town went right through the rock!
Eternally Distracted--lovely time to go, (sing) Oh, I do love to be beside the seaside... Send us a snap!
Thank you all for your comments about my photo - I took the picture a few years ago with a cheap old camera & thought it would be a nice iconic one to send in.
I love living in Brighton; it's impossible to take a bad photo here - It's also like living on holiday! I was born inland & now I live by the seaside; after 15 years it still holds it's appeal.
