“Half memoir, half travel, A Yank Back to England...is an absolutely wonderful book, not only about going home again but also about love and family and tradition and the passage of the years.”

Our first giveaway--English tea!

It has been brought to our attention that the teas we mentioned in a perfect cup of rosie lea may be hard to find in some parts of the country. Therefore, in honor of the Prodigal Birthday, and to ensure everyone in the United States (sorry!) an opportunity to try my favorite blend, we are giving away a packet of Typhoo teabags and a tin of Twinings Earl Grey loose tea.
The rules are simple. For a chance at this lovely prize, just leave me a birthday wish or a tea story (one per person, US only). For an additional entry,
*mention the giveaway on your blog and link back (please notify us); and/or
*email us (aprodigaltourist@gmail.com) a lovely photo of Southern England or East Anglia (not London, please) we may post with a link back to you.
*if you wish us to notify you if your win, please leave or send us your email; otherwise, we will post and give the lucky winner 72 hours to notify us.
How long do these things run? Yikes, no idea. How about we accept entries until June 15 (12 am EDT) and draw a winner on June 16. We will assign numbers in order of entry; if we have less than 64 entries, we will use our roulette table or bingo cage to pick a winner. If we have more than 64 entries, we will be old-fashioned and use a hat and paper.
Good luck and enjoy the rest of my birthday!

Happy Birthday!!! I have recently discovered the wonders of tea, and am thrilled at this opportunity. After finding out how much I loved tea, I quit drinking coffee all together! I have been a coffee drinker for 35 years, but I'm much happier with tea. It's been about 2 months since my last cup of coffee and I feel great!

Happy birthday! I think I shall take this opportunity to go make everyone in my office a nice cup of tea. I'll go for standard Tetley tea but I often have Earl grey bags or rooibos.

Smitten--thanks so much, our first Twitter!
James--I love tea too, welcome to the club. Prodigal Wife did get me into breakfast coffee, but other than that, anytime is teatime! My dad drank tea in the desert, in North Africa!
Emm--what a lovely thought. Hope your coworkers know how lucky they are!
Xpat-thanks; actually, I like birthday pie, much to my American family's distress...
Michelloui & Daffy Cat--thank you so much!

Thank you for visiting my blog today. Hope you had a very happy birthday.

I drink a lot of black tea - London Cuppa and Yorkshire Tea are a couple of favorites. I also like Bewley's, Twinings and Brodies. Obviously I like a variety. One tea I have never tried is Typhoo and I would like to. Thanks for having your giveaway.

Happy Birthday- and what a wonderful contest idea!

I'm going to bake scones in your honour... I'm a Midwestern American- scones ARE English, right? It's not some silly TV or Agatha Christie book thing only? ;)

Hi Prodigal Tourist! I'm not a tea drinker so you don't have to enter me in this contest. Let me know if you've got coffee in another giveaway, though! LOL Hmmm...or English shortbread or something like that! Yummy!!

I just want to wish you a very Happy Birthday anyway! Is it your birthday or the blog's birthday?

I'm sorry that you don't qualify this time for my first contest, but I will make sure that you do (and everyone will) for the next one. I'm just getting the hang of this whole blog culture and what to do! I'm behind on blog etiquette, I think, so I do apologize for not dropping by more frequently. If I didn't have to go to school and work two jobs, I'd spend some time every day reading blogs! I always enjoy my visits here when I do stop by.

I must say Congratulations to you as well for your latest blog award! You're doing a fantastic job!

All the best for a wonderful summer,
Christine

Happy Birthday to you!! There is a great cup sold here in the back of Marshall's and Ross. It comes and goes so it is always iffy whether or not I will get any. It is called "The London Cuppa". It is just a plain old good strong teabag. It has scenes of London on the black and white box.

I enjoy both coffee and tea. I drink much more hot tea in the summertime when coffee seems a bit overwhelming.

Thanks for having the giveaway!

Happy Birthday!

I had the pleasure of receiving some hard candy for my birthday in May from my good friend in France. To my surprise, the candy was flavored with oil of bergamot. Delicious!

I'm so glad I found this blog thanks to Smitten. I soo love tea, Yorkshire tea being my fave bt it is terribly expensive here in the States. (I'm an expat too...also form London, but Earl's Court). As for tea stories, I have so many. There is nothing like drowning a choc digestive in a good cuppa, right? For more, I'm sure you can find them on my blog. I'm gonna link to you from my side bar right now.

I'm linking to you now from my side bar. I so love Typhoo, PG Tips adn yorkshire remains my best. Nothing like dunking a plain choc digestive in a good cuppa, eh?

East Anglia--that'e where my fam lives now but I live all the way out here in the States and rarely get to see them as they never travel here due to finances and health issues. Too bad I don't have my PC with me to send you some really great photos I have of Norfolk though. Love it but still miss London the most.

Afternoon Tea Break said...

From previous comments, it looks like you had a birthday??? Happy belated birthday if that's the case.

Am not after the tea giveaway (I can buy most of the tea I want here :-) ) but I feel like sending in a picture anyway. Unfortunately most of my pics are of London, but you said South England too, so would any of Cornwall do?

P.S. Speaking of teas, have you ever tried rooibos (South African redbush) tea? It's one of my favourite types of tea...

The Prodigal Tourist said...

I love all these birthday wishes! Thank you!
Afternoon Tea Break: Cornwall is simply lovely,... send it on!

Happy Birthday Blog! and I'll share a story as well...
my mornings are never complete if I don't have time for tea ritual. I groggily get out of bed, and head to the kitchen, where I immediately flip the switch on my electric kettle, pull out 2 cups and 2 saucers from the cabinet, place one tea bag in each (green, every time), and pour a small bit of soy milk in each cup while I await the water to get hot (I always stop it before it reaches full boil), I then wait 30 seconds, and pour water into the cups, let the tea brew for 1.5 minutes, remove the tea bags and stir in a dash of sugar. After this, my day can begin! (if I miss this, it throws it all off course!)

I will also link to your blog/contest on my blog: A Day in the Life,
and I've already sent you one London photo which you've posted previously!
Thanks for the chance to win a true English Tea experience!
- Amy

For a chance to win tea, I'll wish you a Happy Birthday!!! Even without it, Happy Birthday!!!

Tea story...I used to love watching the British animated series, A Wind In the Willows because they were always having tea, and eating. And when my sister and I get together and want to treat ourselves we always go for a good traditional afternoon tea, with Earl Grey English Breakfast, scones and Devonshire cream, cucumber sandwiches and tiny pastries. I don't know what it is about it, but we find it comforting.
